The Great Port Townsend Bay Kinetic Sculpture Race is free and open to the public. Bring the whole family: kids, dogs, grandparents, and anyone who has ever wanted to watch a giant mechanical tortoise attempt to cross the bay.

Six Places to Catch the Action

On Saturday everything happens downtown within a few blocks of the American Legion at Monroe & Water Street. On Sunday, the race spans across town.

1Parade: Monroe, Washington, Taylor, or Water Street, Saturday around noon.

2Brake test + Judging: bottom of Monroe Street at the Legion, Saturday early afternoon.

3Water entry: Northwest Maritime Center beach, Saturday mid-afternoon.

4Sand: Sunday afternoon at Fort Worden beach.

5Mud: Sunday afternoon at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.

6Finish line: bottom of Monroe Street at the Legion, Sunday 4 to 5-ish.

Pro Spectator Tips

Stake out your spot at the water crossing early. It fills up fast.

The mud pit is a spectator favorite. Bring a sense of humor and rain gear.

Check the schedule so you don’t miss the parade. It kicks off the whole event.

Talk to the racers. They love telling you about their sculpture.

What to Bring

Layers. October weather on the Olympic Peninsula can be unpredictable.

Comfortable walking shoes. The Kourse covers a lot of ground.

Cash for food vendors and local businesses.

Your camera. You will want photos.

Good to Know

Street parking downtown plus public lots at Water St. and Monroe St. Come early, or park free at Haines Place Park & Ride (350 spaces, off 12th St. by Safeway) and ride the Jefferson Transit loop downtown, Saturday 6:35 am to 8:20 pm.

Kids welcome everywhere but the Ball.
