Makers Market
& Maker Faire

Saturday, October 3rd · 11am-4pm · Pope Marine Plaza

Art, food and fun with STEM: a curated market of local makers run by Salish Sea Makers Market alongside the Great Port Townsend Bay Kinetic Sculpture Race parade and water race.

Saturday, Oct. 3rd  ·  11am-4pm  ·  Pope Marine Plaza, Downtown Port Townsend, WA  ·  Free to Attend!

Art. Motion. Mud. Water. Glory.

For over 50 years, folks from all over the country have built human-powered sculptural vehicles and put them through a series of events to see how well they perform over road, water, mud, and sand. The Great Port Townsend Bay Kinetic Sculpture Race celebrates engineering, art, and glorious weirdness (the most coveted prize goes to the perfectly mediocre).

New this year: the first curated Makers Market & Maker Faire, hosted during the parade and water race at Pope Marine Plaza. Expect a variety of local makers and creatives, food vendors that fit the vibe, and live demonstrations and workshops in Pope Marine Park.

Theme: Flora & Fauna

Vendors are encouraged to dress up and decorate their setup for the theme. Leaves, beasts, blooms, tentacles: bring the wild. This is an outdoor event, rain or shine!

Vendor FAQ

What are the market hours?

Saturday, Oct. 3rd from 11am to 4pm. Vendor load-in and setup runs 9am to 10:45am. Our market starts at 11am sharp, so we expect you to be fully set up and ready to greet customers by then. No early breakdown; the event goes till 4pm.

Where will vendors be located?

Outside, in and around the Pope Marine Plaza in downtown Port Townsend. This is an outdoor event, rain or shine. Accepted vendors are encouraged to dress up and decorate their setup for the Flora & Fauna theme.

How many vendors will there be?

We will accept up to 40 vendors; after that we will waitlist vendors in case of cancellations until the week of the market. Waitlist vendors will be notified if there is available space as soon as possible.

Is there wifi or card-reader service?

There is not. The service is mostly great, but we recommend using your own cell-enabled payment processing for all vendors and/or your own hotspot.

Do I need to bring tables and chairs?

Nothing is provided for this event unless you are a food vendor that has requested access to power. Vendors are responsible for bringing their own 10×13 tent, 40lb tent weights for each tent leg, displays, tables, etc.

Can I bring my own food or drink?

Vendors may bring outside food and non-alcoholic beverages, but we also encourage you to support our food vendors!

Will someone be available to staff my booth so I can take breaks?

We don’t offer back-up staffing for vendor breaks, but neighboring vendors have helped each other out with customers in past years, and a “back in 5 minutes” sign can be very helpful when you need a break.

Can I bring my child to the market?

Yes, as long as your child is actively supervised by an adult at all times and does not disrupt customers or vendors.

Is there a bathroom?

There is a public ADA-accessible bathroom in the connected Cotton Building.

Is there parking?

No specific parking for Pope Marine Park Plaza, but plenty of street parking in and around downtown Port Townsend, plus public lots at Water St. and Monroe St. Detailed parking and setup info will arrive in a day-of-info email if you are accepted. Please do NOT block or double park in or around Water St.

Anything not allowed?

Lit candles and open flames are not allowed during this event. All goods must be made/created/upcycled by you (vintage collections excepted). Please be respectful of cultural traditions; items that do not respectfully represent said traditions are best left at home. All food vendors must have a current Food Worker Card and follow State, County, and City safety protocols.
